The Joker is not just one of Batman’s biggest foes, but he is one of the greatest movie villains of all-time. It seems like no matter who is playing the character, fans are drawn to the dark villain and the way he has evolved over the years. One of the more iconic looks of the Joker comes from his clown-face style. In 1989’s Batman we see a more traditional Joker while characters from The Dark Knight and Suicide Squad have taken a completely different approach.

Of course, you cannot talk about the Joker without referring to his violent ways. The Joker has a penchant for violence, including attacks on others, women, and whole groups of citizens. We’ve seen him kill easily, rob banks, and shoot others without giving it a second thought. But where exactly did the Joker come from? We will explore his origins in all of the movies, including films which didn’t even include a backstory. Watch to see how the Joker has totally changed over the years, depending on the project he has been in. While Batman remains really similar, you truly never know what to expect when it comes to The Joker! Heath Ledger’s portrayal of the Joker in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight’ is probably in everyone’s list of best superhero movie acting performances, if not just MOVIE performances. The character was such a mystery and a perfect villain to Christian Bale’s Batman that countless theories about him have popped up over the years. In today’s theory battle, we’re going to be taking a look at two amazing theories about the Joker that just might be true. The first is that the Joker is the actual hero of the movie. It sounds weird, but the guy really improved life in Gotham. The other is that The Joker is ex-military. It really explains a lot of mysterious things about the character. Heath Ledger's brilliant Joker is arguably the greatest comic book movie villain of all time.

At the very least, the antagonist from 2008's The Dark Knight is right up there with the likes of Terence Stamp's General Zod (Superman II), Ian McKellen's Magneto (the X-Men franchise), and Tom Hiddleston's Loki (the Marvel Cinematic Universe) in contention for that title.

This documentary will chronicle the story of the iconic character from beginning to end, in truly fascinating detail.

It will look at the initial casting of the Joker - including the other actors in contention for the role - and the initial backlash (which now looks a little silly) that it caused. It will look at Ledger's preparation for the role and how seriously he took it. It will look at his tragic death, the circumstances surrounding it, and the idea that his dedication to the role of the Joker might have been the cause of it. It will look at the critical acclaim he posthumously received - including the awards he won - for being so brilliant in the role. It will look at the love and admiration he had from his peers - including those who worked alongside him on The Dark Knight. And it will look at the legacy he left, ten years on from his death.

The Joker is one of the most famous fictional villains of all time. He’s due for two movies coming soon though, one with Jared Leto and Margot Robbie and another with Joaquin Phoenix in an origin story. You may be wondering about this mysterious criminal mastermind and we have the extensive list for everything concerning the clown prince of crime. For instance, his original sidekick wasn’t in fact Harley Quinn. He may be the Joker but he does also have a real birth name. He’s a popular character now, but in the 40s he was almost written out of existence! He can trace his inspiration back to a black and white movie. The Joker also really hates Nightwing, specifically Dick Grayson. He used to have day jobs before being a criminal and thanks to the power of multiple universes, there may be three Jokers living at once. The scarecrow toxin has no effect on the Joker as well. There are two connections to the Scooby Doo universe surprisingly. He’s also done a lot of terrible things and his tally on that is in the thousands. His original solo comics were actually failures. He made Nightwing break his one rule. He crossed over in the world of Judge Dredd once and he may know who Batman actually is. He’s also crossed into the Marvel universe and fused with a Marvel villain. Jack Nicholson has offered input on his performance and we learn that the Joker really hates Nazis. We get a clue as to where he was during the dark knight rises and that Mark Hamill appeared as the Joker in a live action version once...sort of.
